Veterinary Technician - Exotics
Reports to: Lead Exotic Technician
Summary: The exotics appointment veterinary technician will work one-on-one with exotic doctors during appointments.
Responsibilities
Ability to run an efficient appointment schedule alongside the clinician, including initial patient assessment, client communication, and ability to quickly learn our EMR system. (Ezyvet)
Become familiar with exotics charges to properly place on an invoice
Triage exotics patients and collect vitals
Perform basic treatments on patients
Demonstrate to clients how to properly administer medications on a variety of species
Learn how to run in-house blood work on a variety of exotics species and how to prepare lab samples
Follow the checklist and perform other exotics ward responsibilities, such as cleaning, stocking, and managing inpatients with the exotics doctor.
Experience And Education
A minimum of 1-2 years of exotic animal veterinary experience
Ability to correctly handle and restrain a wide variety of exotics species
Capable of properly triaging and assessing an exotic animal (symptom/sign recognition)
Skills set that includes basic treatments such as medication administration (PO, IV, SC, IM), feedings, radiology techniques, etc.
Must have great communication skills and work well with a team
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to follow instructions and become proficient in MLAH protocols regarding exotics standard operating procedures
Physical RequirementsThis job is physically active and requires frequent bending and standing for long periods of time. It requires routine lifting and restraining of animals. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. regularly.
